Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges October 1-7 for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

UPDATE (10/3/2023): The following ramp closure has been added to this week's schedule:

Wednesday night, October 4
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for temporary barrier removal. Drivers will be directed to Route 286 North, stay right and exit to Fair Lakes Parkway. Stay left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Fair Lakes Parkway West. Then stay left and turn left at the traffic signal onto the ramp to Route 286 South.

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Sunday, October 1, through Saturday, October 7
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed on multiple nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for drainage work and overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 North and South Centreville
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be detoured prior to the closure to Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 29 North and South Centreville
The ramp will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 29. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramp from Route 29 South Centreville to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be directed farther south to Stone Road, make a U-turn onto Route 29 North, then follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramp from Route 29 North Centreville to I-66 West 
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be directed farther north to the intersection of Machen Road/Trinity Parkway. At the traffic signal drivers will use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

Ramps from I-66 West to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) North and South 
The ramps will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Drivers will be directed to continue farther west, exit to Route 29 North Gainesville, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right to I-66 East and follow signs to Route 234 Business. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramps from Route 234 Business North and South to I-66 East

The ramps will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Northbound traffic will be directed to continue north for about one mile and turn right onto Route 29 North, travel approximately four miles to the Route 29 Interchange in Centreville, then follow signs to I-66 East. 

Southbound traffic will be directed to turn right onto Balls Ford Road, turn left at the traffic signal onto Miramar Drive, turn left at the traffic signal onto Coverstone Drive, then turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 234 Business North. Traffic will continue north for about 1.5 miles and turn right onto Route 29 North, travel approximately four miles to the Route 29 Interchange in Centreville, then follow signs to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramp from Route 234 Business North and South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic on northbound Route 234 Business will be directed to turn left at Balls Ford Road, travel about two miles, turn right onto Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway) North, then follow signs to I-66 West. Traffic on southbound Route 234 Business will be directed to turn right onto Route 29 South, travel about four miles, then follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Bypass

The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be detoured farther west, exit to Route 29 North, turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 234 Bypass. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramp from Route 234 Bypass North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be detoured to I-66 East, exit to Route 234 Business, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 234 Business North, then stay to the left and turn left at the next traffic signal to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramps from Route 29 North and South Centreville to Route 28 North
The ramps from will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Route 29 South traffic will be directed farther south to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers on Route 29 North will be directed to I-66 East (prior to the closure), then follow signs to Route 28 North. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be directed farther west to Route 15, stay to the left and use the left-most lane to Route 15 South, stay to the left to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramps from Route 29 North and South Centreville to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Route 29 South traffic will be directed farther south to Stone Road, make a U-turn onto Route 29 North at the traffic signal, exit to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East. Route 29 North traffic will be directed farther north to Route 28 North, then follow signs to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramps from Route 29 North and South Gainesville to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West, take the exit to Route 15, stay to the left and use the left-most lane to Route 15 South, then follow signs to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 234 Bypass
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will continue farther east, exit to Route 234 Business, turn left at the traffic signal, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 234 Bypass. Note This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramp from Route 234 Bypass to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be detoured to I-66 West, exit to Route 29 North Gainesville, turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right to I-66 East.
 Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 234 Business North and South
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for striping. Traffic will be directed to exit prior to the closure to Route 234 Bypass South, turn left onto Balls Ford Road to reach Route 234 Business. Note: This closure will not be implemented if it conflicts with another detour route.

Monday, October 2, through Saturday, October 7
Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed on multiple nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.

Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for punch list work. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Tuesday, October 3, and Wednesday, October 4
Ramps from I-66 East to Route 50 East and West
The ramps will be closed both nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for utility work. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 123 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, and then follow signs to Route 50 West or Route 50 East.

Tuesday, October 3
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 South
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 29 Centreville, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, and then to follow signs to Route 28 South.

Tuesday, October 3
Ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South

The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for drainage work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Nutley Street, stay to the left on the ramp and follow the roundabout onto Nutley Street South, stay right to I-66 East, then follow signs to I-495 South.

Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for inspections. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south, exit to Route 29 South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to Route 28 South, cross over I-66, exit to Route 29 South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Thursday, October 5, and Friday, October 6
Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North  
The ramp will be closed both nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, take the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, then stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.
