Virtual Public Information Meeting Jan. 26 on Design Plans to Improve Telegraph Road at Hayfield Road
Learn more and give feedback online at virginiadot.org/TelegraphatHayfield
ALEXANDRIA – The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a virtual public information meeting Wednesday, Jan. 26 on potential improvements in the area of Telegraph Road (Route 611) and Hayfield Road (Route 635). The potential improvements include adding a second northbound Telegraph Road lane through the intersection, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramp upgrades, reconfiguring southbound Telegraph Road just beyond Hayfield Road by converting the existing on-road parking to a second through lane, and converting the eastbound Hayfield Road through lane to a shared left-turn through lane. This project aims to reduce congestion, improve operations and enhance pedestrian mobility.
Preliminary design options include the potential widening of the footprint of Telegraph Road to the west or to the east in the area of the Hayfield Road intersection, and upgrading and/or adding pedestrian facilities.
At the intersection, Telegraph Road averages about 21,000 vehicles a day and Hayfield Road averages about 10,000 based on 2019 data.
The project is financed with state and local funding.
