UPDATE (7/19/2021): Due to delivery issues, the beam installation schedule has been altered as follows: Closures on I-66 East will occur tonight, Monday, July 19, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.; closures on I-66 East and West are planned tomorrow night, Tuesday, July 20, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.; and closures on I-66 West are planned Wednesday through Friday nights, July 21-23, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday, July 24, is a back-up night.

FAIRFAX – Overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages on I-66 East and West approaching Vaden Drive in Vienna are planned this weekend, July 16-17, and next week, July 19-23, for continued installation of beams for the new Express Lanes access ramps at Vaden Drive. This work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. 

Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area and should consider using alternate routes.

Friday, July 16, and Saturday, July 17
I-66 East from Blake Lane to Vaden Drive

• I-66 East will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Vaden Drive from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.
• Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes nightly.
• All lanes will reopen by 9 a.m. 

Monday, July 19
I-66 East and West between Blake Lane and Nutley Street

• I-66 East and West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Vaden Drive from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. 

Tuesday, July 20, through Friday, July 23
I-66 West from Nutley Street to Vaden Drive

• I-66 West will be reduced to one travel lane approaching Vaden Drive nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes nightly.
• All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. (9 a.m. Saturday). 

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.

The Vaden Drive Bridge over I-66 has been rebuilt to accommodate the widening of I-66 and add connections to the future I-66 Express Lanes to and from the west, providing direct access to the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail Station. The new, wider bridge includes a shared-use path and opened to traffic in November 2020.
